Stories have been an important aspect of Native American Alaskan Native culture for thousands of years, and continue to enliven and enrich the lives of Native people of all ages and ethnicities.
Wisdom of the Elders, Inc., the Northwest Indian Storytellers Association, Zenger Farm and East Portland Action Plan are teaming up to hold a Native American storytelling gathering on Friday, November 20th at 7 pm. The location is at Zenger Farm’s new Grange at 11741 SE Foster Rd, Portland OR 97266 from 7pm-9:30 pm.
All are welcome and encouraged to come and listen to local Northwest Native voices share their culture and oral tradition through indigenous storytelling, and help support our Native community at this wonderful event.
The Northwest Indian Storytellers Association and Wisdom of the Elders, Inc. just celebrated 10 years of traditional storytelling October 15-18 at the Northwest Indian Storytellers Festival. After four days of fulfilling activities, we get to walk away with a sense of knowing that these practices are alive and ever present. Stories were shared, by both those who have been telling them for years, as well as those emerging as storytellers, finding a voice for the coming generations. Wisdom is grateful that National Endowment for the Arts has funded these Native storytelling activities for the past 10 years.
